Honestly, what did they do? The app worked fine on a Friday and was broken Saturday..but they can’t change it back to Friday?
They update both the speaker firmware and app constantly.
They are basically admitting they can't revert the speaker firmware which is basically what does the heavy lifting of playing music.
I don't want to think this way but this feels like when apple forced me to do an update on a perfectly fine iPad and when it was done, the iPad was unusable because the arrogant pricks at Apple test these updates on state of the art devices and frick the neanderthals still holding on to older hardware. They can just politely buy a new iPad.
Sonos can't really tell everyone they put bloated shite on their speakers because speakers aren't something people ever intend to replace as long as music is coming out of them. Sluggish volume level response and music stopping in mid playback bear the hallmarks of software that is too sophisticated to run on 15yo computer processors.
They are going to have to gut the bloat and go back to lean code that runs smoothly on this old hardware. I don't think Sonos wants to have to tell everyone to give up their ancient play 1 speakers which is what 99% of the sonos customers are using in some form.
How embarrassing and what a PR nightmare that would be.
Tl;Dr Sonos would probably brick their speakers if the tried to go backwards at this point

I just play Spotify through my Sonos speakers. I haven’t used the Sonos app in quite a while.
Same. Just that and TV
But a few weeks ago I made some WiFi changes at home and had to re-setup my surround system. And now I can’t add my sub back. So currently have a non-functioning sub

Except, Sonos hasn’t released a new speaker in over a year. It seems like they destroyed their ecosystem for headphones a couple dozen people purchased.

I’ve got my father in law trained to just use his as a 5ish zone AirPlay 2 target started from his AppleTV. I’m not certain he knows there is an app.
This looks to be Unifi’s new idea to supplant Sonos.
It will go poorly.
