My HP Pavilion fan went out. I bought it from BestBuy in 2017.
Bring it in to get fixed. The part is obsolete. HP doesn’t make a replacement anymore.
Try to find a generic replacement compatible part. Doesn’t work.

Seems crazy that something as simple as a broken fan will render it useless.

What are my options? Will a lap fan work well?

Sometimes you can find laptops for "parts only" on ebay (or maybe even the actual part) - it would be cheaper than a new laptop. And I assume you've done a google search for the fan part number?

I guarantee you HP never made the fan. It's a generic fan that HP used and assigned a part number to. I can see where they may not carry that part number anymore, but you can search for fans by size in millimeters. I would try that and include Aliexpress in your search.

ETA: you may have already done this, but I would test the fan to make sure it is actually bad and not something else like a loose connection, short, bad controller, etc.

Ok.
I kinda feel dumb, because I really didn’t do my own research or look at my computer much.

I just got done looking into this.

GeekSquad are some retards. The model number they gave me was incorrect. That model number coincides to an HP Pavilion.
My laptop is an HP Envy and I just looked at the model number on it and it’s not the one they gave me.

I did a quick part search, and found that they absolutely still make the fan.
I ordered it. $28.
I then watched a YouTube video of a dude disassembling the laptop to make sure the fan I’m seeing looks like the fan in the laptop. It does.

I feel like a dumbass for not doing this on the front end.

Oh well, now I know.
Back to Best Buy I go. Probably to fuss a few people lol
