I would like to monitor state of charge in a 24 volt system of two batteries in series. This is for a trolling motor. I bought a monitor a while back but was intimidated by the instructions and put it away. I have since watched some videos and understand a tiny bit more, so I would like to install. Still, I am very confused.

Do I just attach the negative ends of the charger and trolling motor to the shunt, then a cable from the shunt to the negative terminal on the battery? Does series or voltage matter? Does state of charge matter when installed? How can this work if each battery has its own negative from the charger?

I finally realized I asked a stupid question. There's only one connection to the shunt, and it has to be the one negative leading to the trolling motor. The only other wire is nothing but power. Sorry for wasting your time lol
