This is a bit old but what has been rumored before is the X is just going away rather than being the new discounted phone. That would make sense with the the new LCD version of the X at the low end and some of the reason behind the high price of the X being OLED screen availability.
The OLED screens are definitely nicer but if you can live with a normal LCD screen, you'll probably get most of the X features at an iPhone 8 price.

I don’t care too much about screen. Will the new, cheaper x have same camera? That’s all I really care about.
