I have a device that is over a decade old and starting to give me some issues. I'm looking to replace it with something newer and more reliable. Unfortunately, I can't replace the thermostat with a smart thermostat so I need a separate device. I want to primarily monitor temp & humidity. Anyone here have experience with something they'd like to share?

TIA

There's newer network based devices that are rackable and can be built upon (water, broken glass, etc)....

We use https://www.tempalert.com/. You can do NetworkBased or Cellular based and they have different models and modules you can add.

APC Netbotz. In addition to temperature and humidity you can add cameras, smoke detectors, moisture detectors, etc.

Seconding the thanks. Any other suggestions for something simple?

I had a small server room overheat this week due a failed condensate pump on a mini-split. The control for "Mr Slim" -- yes, that's Mitsu's name for it -- can display all sorts of diagnostic and alarm codes, but the first-level HVAC service guy and I couldn't find a port for an external alarm output or contact.

So... I too am looking for a simple-and-cheap over-temperature alert. Was thinking about putting in an Ecobee Lite stat just for its ability to send alerts, but if I'm going to DIY for just one condition, cheaper would be better.

TL;DR: anything cheaper?

RPI zero W $10.00

1 wire temp sensors

A $10.00 RPI, 10 TEMP SENSORS for just over $1.00 a piece, and a program like Node Red and anyone with the slightest bit of tech knowledge can have something set up in under an hour that will monitor the temp, notify you of changes that exceed your set variance by email or text, and also trigger other functions in response like fans.
