Samsung Android text message read notification

Any of you know if there's a way for my wife and I to enable the text message read feature for just between us but turn the feature off for all others that we text? All I can find in the menus is either read receipts on or off for the entire messaging app. I have a S10, she has a S21, if it matters.

Why does she need to know when you read her text?
That feature is available on iphone per contact.

Download Google messages app and enable chat features and use that instead of the stock Samsung app.
