Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have an old iPhone and want to see the old texts? Can it be done? Thank you.

How long ago were they used? It’s possible to look online to see the history on your service providers website but I’m assuming they won’t go back that far

I'm guessing this is a phone in the drawer and you switched to a non iPhone after this one?
Your text messages should have gone through iMessage and be tied to your iCloud account. If you still have the phone connect it to a charger and try powering it up and connecting it to wifi. I don't know how long Apple keeps old iCloud accounts active, but if they haven't shut it down, you can probably see the old texts once you get the phone up.

Yes, it's possible to see old text messages on your iPhone 5. Here are a few ways to do it:
Open the Messages app on your iPhone 5 and scroll through your conversations to view old texts.
If you have backed up your iPhone 5 to iCloud or iTunes, you can restore the backup to a newer iPhone and view your old texts that way.
You can also use a third-party software such as iExplorer or Decipher TextMessage to extract old texts from your iPhone 5 and save them to your computer for viewing.
Note that if you haven't backed up your iPhone 5 or if the texts were deleted, there may be no way to recover them.
