Is there a device that will record streaming video? There are things that I would like to watch at the time of my choosing.

Thanks!
I have Roku and Apple TV. Each has several streaming service apps (Netflix, Frndly, etc.). I want to record video from these apps for viewing later. I don't think my AT&T DVR will record from these services. Help!

Netflix is on demand. You don’t record on demand. It’s on demand.

DVDfab now has a fork/product called “Streamfab” that will do what you’re looking for. It’s not cheap for a license. Similar would be Anystream which currently supports fewer devices but sells their product with “future streaming services supported”

I’m pretty sure you could grab a Hauppauge HDPVR (or a Colossus 2) and get 1080p out of any device, but it will be very manual to record it. You may need an HDMI splitter that ignores HDCP handshakes.

And then if you want to throw money at the problem to make it go away, there’s Modulus should record from most commercial streaming sites without significant problem. But it’s a $6,400 solution. If you upgrade to the m2, it adds ripping UHD (and previous) disks and will serve them up to 16 players around the house (they charge about $1000 for each of those). It looks like he basically packaged a bunch of difficult—but-nearly-free-to-do things into a box that does them easily. How it actually performs or any of that, though, who knows. I didn’t buy one.

I haven’t used this in several years. But I used to have PlayOn that does exactly what you’re looking for. You give it your logins or authenticate in the app and it records streams as a file that you can host yourself on your computer or using their cloud service. You access those shows with an app on your streaming device.

I didn’t include PlayOn because they shifted models a little while back. They no longer support their “lifetime” members (me) but have moved to a continual subscription base.

You log in, record things to where you want them. The somewhat cool thing about their current model is that you can join temporarily and then quit once your library is as full as you want it to be (and it’s only $20/year right now)
