Question about printers

Do printers still print ID information on the pages they print on? I remember a few years back it came out how they were using near-illegible yellow dots to print out make and model of the printer.
They were not printing people's names, just printer information.

I am completely intrigued as to why you're asking!
I wouldn't worry about the microprinting ID though, because it's trivial to look at the print jobs sent to any printer on a network and definitively identify who printed what, and when.
Take a screenshot with your phone, print the screenshot(s) offsite.

Did some digging, the microdots are still there.

If one were to print political disagreements or savage memes then post them in public places the micro dots can single you out…especially if you bought the printer new. Model and serial numbers are recorded in the sale and can be tracked down to the point of sale and purchaser, easily.

Doing more digging at EFF there's one thing I noticed; they're all laser printers. This makes sense as inkjet microscopic "bleed" likely makes codes they rely on tiny size and very accurate arrangement probably unusable. Buy an aftermarket printer that has been "washed" through eBay by a big outfit (ie, Printer Recyclers R Us, not Jimbob in Prairieville.
I would suggest that given the prevalence of cameras that are exterior facing at commercial establishments, you're going to get caught on camera repeatedly during the distribution of said documents.
Or print/copy at Kinkos and pay with cash.
Other tools for those that are careful about privacy, and security are here.
