Check it out on SlickDeals
Basically, buy from Target (and finance all/part of it with Verizon) and you get a Target $300 gc. Then you can qualify with Verizon to get another $300 in bill credits over 24 months. Read thru the SD link to see the details, but I just got it last night and it worked. Confirmed with a Verizon rep via chat that their promo will be applied to my account.
If you go to Target a lot, or can at least get your groceries there for a while, then the GC is as good as cash (you can't put it towards the phone though). The Verizon bill credit comes in $12.50 (300/24) monthly credits, which sucks that you don't get it right away, but if you don't plan on leaving Verizon anytime soon and plan on keeping this phone for a while, then why not. You can pay it off at any time, you'll just lose the remainder of the credits. Also, you can put a down-payment at purchase and finance the rest, so I just paid for most with my Target redcard to save another 5%, then financed the last $300 so it would just cancel out with the credits. Some people have apparently paid all but $1 and financed the $1 (at like $0.05/month
) just so they can say they "financed" and qualify for the promos.
Read through the SD thread because there's conflicting reports about whether the deals stack. Lots of Verizon/Target reps aren't aware of each other's deals and might tell you they don't stack. Key seems to be just to go get it from Target, then chat with a Verizon rep afterwards without mentioning where you bought it or that you already received a GC and have them just check your account to verify you have the bill credit pending.
Also, I was bummed that it was going to be activated with a Verizon sim and have their bloatware, but the phone is still unlocked and allowed me to delete their crap. Apparently Verizon locks the bootloader, so if that matters to you then TIFWIW. Doesn't matter much to me.
All in all, with the promos and Redcard savings, I got it for about $630 off.

being verizon and having a locked bootloader is a deal killer for me.

I haven't looked at the Pixel 2, but with the OG Pixel XL, you could unlock the bootloader as long as you did it before you had any updates install.
