I'm not even that old, but I'm overwhelmed. About to move and want to cut the cord and go internet only. We just don't watch regular tv. Have Firetv, Hulu, Netflix etc. Going with cox for my internet. Is it better to just rent their stuff or should I buy my own modem and router?

What do you guys recommend? three tv's total, a laptop, and ipad will be in use streaming various movies, shows, music etc. 5 people total, need lots of bandwidth.

Thank you!

You can save yourself money by buying your own modem and router, but that limits how much they can support you.

In your case I would probably just go with their equipment.

I'll tell you what I have. I'm sure there are better set ups, but I'm not exactly a tech guru either.

I bought my modem. Check Cox's website for a list of compatible ones. I have a Netgear CM500 because that's all I needed. You'll need a newer model, but I have no complaints. My router is Google WiFi mesh. It's really easy to set up. My house is big and old and blocky, but the mesh system covers it and out to my pool.

It's not difficult to use your own.

Thanks y’all. I’m going this route. My place is also old and blocky w a pool.

Next catch though is the little old couple I brought from that lived here for 20 years must’ve been stealing cable. Cox has a block on my address for fraud. Now have to jump through hoops. Unreal.
