Phone camera question- mirror image perspective?

So no, I don't take selfies often. I've never really noticed this, but this morning I did happen to take a picture using the front-facing camera (Galaxy S9);
the image is flipped (like, as it would appear in a mirror). What should be on my right, is on what appears to be off my left shoulder.
Is this due to the software making the image LOOK like a mirror, so people can use it like a mirror (thinking more about the onscreen live image, not the final picture)?
Is there a setting to have your final photo "correct"?

It always makes me feel old, because I don't get it either, but I never wanted to ask
