I ran everything with that. The calculators said it wouldn't work. It works just fine. I have runs up to 50'-75' with no issues.

I finally got my dig-quad and psu in but am having issues. The board acts like it’s getting no power. No led light up on the board but the one on the psu does. I setup the wifi connection just fine using the usb port and my laptop.

Any thoughts?

How are you powering the Dig Quad?

30a PSU

I’m getting 12v to the board and to the outputs for the strings.

I do not own a quad but do have the octa, so my power and cpu have separate power inputs. This board is a little odd because it has 3 power options, but it sounds like one is not working:
1) usb (seems like it worked)
2) dedicated 5/12v in
3) I believe it can sip power off the main in/through (but it sounds like this is not functioning)

Want to try running a +/- to the dedicated 12v in, making sure the jumper is on (removing it tells it to accept 5v power), and see if that works?

And if that doesn’t, plug USB back in. If it comes to life then, then I’d email Quindor. If it does not, it sounds like something got fried between setting wifi and plugging power in.

Do I need to be providing power to both inputs on the board?

Also, what jumper?

Not to be lazy, but they have a pretty well thought out wiring guide.

My understanding is you don’t HAVE to provide power with the extra/2nd 5v input, but it’s available.

And I may have misspoke- the usb could be/probably is covered in the standard setup, so it’s probably only 2 real power options in most cases.

Yeah I’ve looked at that but I guess I have the next version.

It actually says “no jumper needed” on it in the bottom right of this pic haha

I would guess a bad power connector pin/loose connection.
Worth reaching out to the seller- he’s supposed to be real responsive.

But the good news is it looks like you could probably power the “brain” or esp32 with a separate USB power supply in the meantime and confirm that the rest of the connectors (data) work and turn the lights on/off.

So the issue was that I had a very small component that broke off in the packaging. I was able to solder it back on and finally got the board powered back up.

I temp installed the lights on the back patio to play around with for new years. The wife and kids enjoyed them and I had fun running through the different effects.

Ill have to make a game plan on how to tackle doing the whole house.

I have a Govee LED strip along the ceiling on my front porch. Gives the nice glow to the porch area. I change the colors throughout the year and have them programmed to turn on/off at specific times.k

On a side note, smart lights are great for when you will be out of time for an extended period. My lights turn on/off at night just like if someone was home. Alexa tries to emulate our light usage pattern, so it isn't just on a timer.

I'm finally ready to start my project.

I'm going with 12v ws2811 pixels using vinyl j-channel to attach to the eaves. I'm estimating I'll have about 450 pixels with 3in spacing. I have my Digi-Quad that I have been playing around with for a while. The digi-quad and psu will be in a project box in my storage room. It isn't air conditioned but is much cooler than the garage or attic so the psu shouldn't overheat.

I'm hoping I can get by with 3 injection points including the ends. If not, it will be easy to run 18ga for a couple of additional injections. The attic space above is clear so there shouldn't be any problems.

I was going to place the box in a cabinet in my living room but that would have made the initial injection and data line about a 55ft run and the far end closer to 80ft which seems too long.

I'm just waiting on the last few items to come in before I get started, hopefully this weekend I'll make some progress.

Update: Every year in September I turn on my lights and give them a refresh. I had to make 1 repair to a bad connection between light strips. I upgraded to these waterproof connectors. Vastly superior to the "stock", non waterproof plugs that I was using (which have worked for 4 years now). I ordered there because they were the smallest IP65 ones I could find, and they were white which matches our soffit. I'm guess that I'll update and repair as the original ones fail.

That is a lot cheaper and looks easier to hide than the xconnect connections I just ordered.

Personally, I'd say they're better than the review score on amazon. Since I was on a ladder 15' in the air, I used "solder sticks" to make the repair and it wasn't super difficult. I then coved the ends of the repair with heat shrink. Took me 15-20 after I collected my materials and hauled out the ladder.

I tried canceling my order for xconnects I had ordered but it was too late.

I'll just have to try and remember about these in the future.

I finally finished my light project.

I used vinyl j-channels all around and it ended up working like a charm. There was definitely a bit of work with measuring and drilling holes, but overall it wasn’t too bad.

You can’t see the lights at all during the day from the road which is perfect. At night it lights up great.

I used ws2811 pixels and a dig-quad. I injected power at 250 and about 350. I have 455 total using 3” spacing. I can already tell I’m going to want lights on the tree by the corner of the house and the wife is asking about lights on the back patio. That will take another 236 lights but I have enough wire to make it happen, just need the lights.

I’m just now starting to jump into Home Assistant which is looking like a whole other rabbit hole.

So my wife liked the LED's on the inside tree so much she asked if I could light the two artificial trees on our front porch. "Sure, why not?" So after a few mins of building a WLED controller out of a leftover NodeMCU I was in business.

The best trick was syncing the two trees to the LED's on the house. The two trees are run in parallel and are basically light up identically when you look at them. When her and the kid finally noticed they were like "How'd you do that?!?"

For years before I did this project, we had a wreath above the eve coming to our front porch. It was decked out with regular colored Christmas lights. It's bugged me ever since I started this project 4 years ago as it just didn't match. Well, this year the ribbon on the wreath needed a refresh so I took the opportunity to remedy the situation. I ordered 5m of "fairy lights" (50 total), a D1 mini and 5 m of 3 strand LED wire. Super simple project and the wreath now sync's to the two trees on the front porch and the rest of the house. Powering the 50 lights of a 5v 2 amp USB brick.

Just waiting to the Wife to build the Bow for the wreath (Given her work schedule, that might be the next skil I aquired... )

Installed 2 sets of 100 feet Govee lights
Used a boom lift from HD to get to the high parts

Absolutely recommend

House was old enough to have a three inch trim piece all around edge of roof, fit perfectly behind
