had to guess, burn-in is mostly a boogeyman made up by LCD TV sales departments.
no

I was in best buy fairly recently and I don't remember the tech but it was a brand new 85" TV with a nasty case of burn in. I asked and they told me they had gotten it in the day before but had left it on during the middle of setup and a dialog box left on the screen all night messed it up pretty good.

He seemed to think they could fix it but I was surprised that could happen on a brand new TV.

Eta probably one of those "unlikely" scenarios because it wasn't in a normal state where all the fancy software is running to counteract that but it showed me this is a very real problem and all it takes is your TV os to crash and you might end up with a panel issue.

Burn-in is very real, but it takes a scenario that most people will not come across.

From what I have read and what common sense (not always to be trusted ) tells me, the biggest culprit nowadays is news channel logos.

I remember way back (early 1980s) in the first or second-generation Nintendo days, this was an issue for CRTs. I saw this with my ex-wife's little sister. She would leave her TV on and pause the Nintendo. She had a permanent Super Mario ghost on that TV.

Agree. Our LG OLED C2 is turned off all day until we come home between 3-6 pm. At that point our TV displays several 30 minute or 1 hour programs (the evening news, dateline/primetime, sitcoms, Netflix or Amazon Prime) until turning off at 10-11 pm. Never the same screen for any length of time. Not seeing burn in, and don't expect to.
