Has anyone stated the best HDTV antenna?
Posted on 11/5/15 at 11:05 am to CarRamrod
I'm on my 3rd HDTV indoor antenna now, it's the Mohu Leaf 30.
At first I tried taking the cheap route off of Amazon for $15. Signal wasn't consistent enough on all the major channels (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX). Then the next one, $20, just didn't mount and stay mounted against my window. The Mohu leaf 30 has a great signal even with bad weather and it's simple to mount. Worth the $40
Ohh and the multi-directional feature is pretty clutch. You basically mount/hang it wherever is convenient and if you are within 30 miles of a broadcasting tower, you're golden.

make sure whatever app you're using inside of kodi is up to date, therefore it's links are updated.

I was using the fusion tvaddons with Genesis

You could have adjusted it right on the menu screen to the right

Genesis has gone downhill the last month or so. I hardly use it anymore. 1channel is what I have been using. Its not great but better than Genesis.

Evidently, due to its popularity, streams that it uses are getting reported and taken down really quickly. This is causing the developer to have to constantly update and rework the streams it uses, and he's getting tired of doing so. As a result, it's starting to perform much worse than it once did.

Could we be seeing a temporary hault in our streaming capabilities?

Anyone recommend a good indoor 50 mile range antenna?
I'm looking at the lastest version of the Amazon Basics indoor antenna.

I'm watching X-Files and Vikings on Genesis and its working fine. I guess it's the newer shows that are performing bad?

I used Genesis to watch the newest episode of TWD last night about an hour after it aired.
I will say that in previous weeks, the newest episode was linking out to some really old episodes, and the link was staying screwy for around 24 hours. So it was nice to see that kink ironed out.

The Cox mini box requirement hs pushed me to make a change. LUS fiber is finishing running fiber in our neighborhood and they do not require the mini boxes. I am trying to decide between cutting the cord or going to LUS. After Christmas I will have 5 TV's throughout my house (guess what the kids are getting for Christmas). I might have a 6th if I stick a spare TV in the guest room. I don't think I would need HD antennas in all the rooms, but at lest 3. Running one outdoor HD antenna seems problematic and like a pain in the arse. Are these my only options for OTA HD channels?
Next, and most importantly. I need my sports (LSU / college mostly). Right now I use AppleTV for anything I can't catch via cable. Am I correct that if I keep only internet service through Cox (or LUS) that I will still have my ESPN login? If not, will keeping a basic cable package also allow me to keep my login? From what I have read through this thread sports through Sling are hit and miss..
Am I missing anything? Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

You must have cox cable to use the log in to access watchESPN
With basic channels, you will only catch ESPN and ESPN2.
ESPNU, SECN, and SECN+ won't be available to you with basic cable

Thinking about cutting the cord. My girlfriend watches shows on abc, nbc, cmt, lifetime. Would a certain streaming device have these apps already or it doesn't matter which one?

ABC, CBS and NBC (also fox) can be seen with a digital antenna and in HD.
Lifetime is on Fire Tv, but you need a cable subscription to watch it. Same for ESPN

Would need something like a dvr to record it. Is that possible?

Not with a digital antenna. Cord cutters use digital antennas to watch live television and local news on ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX.
You should look into an Android streaming box running Kodi and TVMC. It would have all the content you are and your girlfriend are looking for. Me and my old lady live together and she's now fully onboard with cord cutting and has adapted to using the streaming boxes. she loves it. she can watch whatever show she wants, from whatever channel, whenever she wants.

Are you limited to what you can watch on tvmc? Sorry for my ignorance.

I know people use the Fire TV for Kodi. Can I do it with just a Fire Stick? Think I saw where people recommend using the TV because it's faster. But the deal of the Fire Stick for only $15 on Black Friday seems too good to pass up.
I really just want to make sure it's something I really want and not blow too much money on.
