Netgear R7960P Nighthawk X6S AC3600 Connectivity Issue

I bought the Netgear R7960P today to replace my old Apple Base Station. I do not have cable, so there's no cable modem for internet connection, just Eatel fiber straight from the wall to the Base Station.
I powered up the Netgear and connected its internet port straight to the Base Station to set up the new network, and connected my phone and laptop to it. Everything looked good, so I removed the Base Station from the chain and connected the Netgear straight to the wall. Despite all the connectivity lights being lit and indicating a connection, I get no internet.
However, if I plug the fiber back into the Base Station and plug the Nighthawk into the Base Station...I get internet through the Base Station even though my devices are on the new Nighthawk network.
I called Eatel because, what the hell, I thought there might be a small chance it was something they needed to reset on their end. Predictably though, Eatel was no help, putting me on hold a few timesbefore giving me the, "Yeah, that router's probably faulty; you're gonna have to call Netgear about that..." spiel. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong here?

You shouldn't have connected the Nighthawk to the base station. It's probably in bridge/AP mode now.
Connect the Nighthawk directly and then you need to log in to it and go through the setup process.
Fyi, that is not fiber you are connecting to the Apple or Nighthawk. There might be fiber running to your house but it goes to an ONT (optical network terminal) which converts it to ethernet.
