Let me start of with all the applicable info:
- 49-50" size
- 4k
- Full HDR (not just compatible)
- Location is a formal living room with LOTS of big windows (the serious TV will be purchased later and located in the basement)
- Mounting height would be about 5' from floor to bottom of screen
- sitting arrangement is 2 coaches in an L shape. The couch directly facing the TV will be almost centered. so wide viewing angles would be nice for the 2nd couch but as this won't be a main TV, not critical.
- This will be used a LOT for streaming for kids stuff. Native app support for things like Disney, Nick, Amazon, ESPN, etc. would be preferred but I can always get another streaming device if need be.
- <$500

Right now I'm leaning towards the LG 49" UK6300 for $390 but I feel a bit overwhelmed and unsure of my options as I haven't researched TVs in over 10 years.

The viewing angle reports have me hesitant on that one. I like the Roku feature and the stutter/judder performance.

When I was at Nebraska Furniture Mart they said they couldn't recommend it mainly because they have been getting a lot of sets that were DOA. That kind of scared me off as that was the first thing I wanted to get.

If HDR is very important then that’s not a great option. No wide color gamut and not very bright. But there’s probably not many options with those features in that price range. An IPS panel is good for wide viewing angles, but doesn’t produce good contrast. You’re gonna have to decide which is more important

For this TV, streaming/smart features and viewing angles are probably most important. This will mainly be background noise type application with kids watching kid shows the most or wife watching news in the morning.

Maybe it was a bad batch but TCL is solid. I bought my first one in 2010. We use it at work now as a monitor for security cameras and it hasn't been turned off in 4 years.

I have a 55" TCL w/ roku in my work apartment and one in my basement. Plus 2 32" TCL w/ roku in bedrooms. Never a single issue.

Or maybe they wanted to sell a higher priced unit with a higher markup 9and better commission if the salesman get one).
