I have the RV Satellite dish....(DISH Network)
question: if I get DISH service for the home, do I just have to guide the dish to "a spot", or does the DISH service has to be on the RV itself ?
...all help is appreciated..assume I am totally ignorant..you may be close to right

Not sure what you are asking.
You are going to need a satellite and a box, anything further is for convenience. But IMO redneck not to get more. Get a satellite for the house, get one for the rv. For the rv, they make mobile ones and ones that sit on a stake or tripod. The mobile ones auto find the signal. It's not that hard to find a signal though.
Then you need at least one box, its easy to move this between your house and rv, but easier just to have more boxes. However you will pay fees usually for more boxes.
You might need various other pieces, just depending on the exact box and satellite.

They have flat ones that mount on top of the rv as well(so you can watch while moving), but just remember they are both much more expensive than the old tripod/stake and regular dish.

I have the tailgater that I use while tailgating. It worked great last year. I would go online and activate the receiver just for the day and deactivate it the next day.

We don't have DISH but on DirecTV you just hook up one of your boxes to the TV in the RV and hook it up to the satellite on the roof.
