I have att internet. Download speeds are coming out at 300mps and upload 280.

I have multiple cameras but they are super slow connecting to live stream. Everything else seems to work fine.

Camera support is saying there are too many devices connected to the router causing the slowdown.

I have whatever router/modem att provided. I used to have a netgear but when we moved att installed their own.

Question: Would a different better router solve this?

Do you have any admin config options with the ATT provided router? Not sure if you'd be able to setup traffic prioritization. So do you have an NVR with your cameras or do they store to cloud? Might want to see if you can provide your own modem and router and see if that saves you monthly rental costs.

I'm not actually renting it. they gave it to me.

Cameras store to the cloud. Not sure about the admin config options.

Do you have the ability to configure your WiFi SSID and password on the device, or did the tech do all that when they set you up with the new service?

If it's a combo modem/router device, you may want to consider buying a different router.

Yes, the ATT gateways for the fiber service give you full access to the router settings. The only thing you can't do is manually update the firmware. The settings go rather in depth for residential products.

You can even change router settings using the recently released ATT router app or through the ATT website.

For the more dangerous settings, you have to be at the router as there is a security code sticker on the device that is needed to get into those setting pages.

nice information!

OP - you said you called the support for camera manufacturer, have you tried addressing with ATT yet? Assume there's no other settings within the cameras, since support probably verified config? Have you tried turning off all but one camera to see if it streams then add one camera back in at a time until streaming isn't stable?

I know on my NVR config I can adjust the resolution/bit rate of the stream for my cameras, but that's just sub-stream that is access while video is recorded locally.

Thanks for the info everyone.

This is the second time I had an issue. First time, I couldn't even get the cameras to connect. One day they worked, the next they didn't.

Called camera tech people who then had me call ATT to open the port (why they closed it I don't know).

Things worked again after that but has always been slow. I have not talked to ATT again since the time they opened the port.

Using WiFi definitely doesn't help. Go wired if at all possible.
