I have Rokus throughout the house. However I am frustrated by the lack of support for dTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD and Atmos and DTS-X on the Roku platform this is important now that I have fully updated my media room/HT.

I want to future proof for 4k and HDR for when my plasma finally kicks the bucket.

With all of that said, are there any significant pitfalls to the Nvidia shield I should be worried about? I would only be adding one for my home theater room and it is specifically for the audio formal compatibility issue. If I knew Roku was about to do a firmware release in support of these audio formats I would not spend a dime but they don’t seem to be in any hurry to jump on board for whatever reason.

So anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated.

None. Love it. It never stutters or stops. Great little Plex server, too. I have had as many as five devices playing back Plex videos at one time and it never stalled. I got it with the game controller and the games are just terrific.

Will a harmony remote operate it?

I've never heard anything bad about the device, but IMHO, trying to future proof with tech never semester to work out that well. Unless you are actively looking to replace the plasma, I would recommend waiting and replacing your TV and streaming device simultaneously.

I was a Roku guy. I still have a 3 and 4, although once I got a Shield, the 4 gets virtually no use.

I love the Roku interface and software. However, no way to do android, many popular APKs, Kodi, etc., makes it a less than optimal cord cutting option.

You're obviously further down this particular rabbit hole than I am, particularly as an audio server, but I can say this about the Shield - it is expensive, but it is fantastic hardware from a capability standpoint. My Roku 4 was always hot in service with 4k and both the 3 and 4 needed somewhat regular restarts. The Shield doesn't seem to get nearly as hot, although I find it needs restarts about as often as the Roku 4.
