So what do you make of this?

Apple has discontinued the third-generation Apple TV, removing it from its online store.
Gen 3 apple TV was still being sold less than 3 years ago without access to an app store.

Man you really hung up on this. You act like Apple is the only electronics manufacturer that makes products that become obsolete. You sound like one of these snowflake liberals. Common sense goes out the window because they hate Trump so much. In your case you hate Apple.
No different than walking into the AT&T store and buying a Samsung S7 today. Some people are cheap (sound familiar ? ) and will buy the cheapest thing. So apple sold the gen 3 longer that they probably should have, big deal. People were still buying them up. That’s going to happen when you have such a revolutionary product.
My beef with Apple TV is they waited too long to release the 4K version. That’s how I ended up with this POS Fire TV I’m currently using. I also don’t like that they removed the audio out and the remote is just plain dumb. But currently it is one of the premium streamers out there.

I worked for Apple for 5 years. I know how they operate.
They made a business decision not to allow the app store on 24+ million devices when it was probably 3 lines of code in an iOS update.
This is classic Apple being Apple because they wanted to frick over the sheep who buy anything new they put out and they enjoyed charging dumbasses for the same product 4x before adding a simple app marketplace.
Please tell me the business case for not adding the app store...which was released with the first iPhone in 2008 to the first 3 generations of apple TV that were sold all the way through late 2016..a device designed to provide smart TV options.
I'll tell you the business case. Apple doesn't like anyone else in their ecosystem who might offer other video options and cut into those sweet sweet margins. After all they're building a $15 billion spaceship office. Plex ain't paying for those curved windows!

They only relented because every other streaming device in the market provided that capability.
As far as being a snowflake I don't give a rip what Apple does but don't sit there and act like this is a superior device when 24+ million obsolete boxes are in homes right now without a basic app loading feature.

Well that’s what you sound like when you base things off of emotions. It all make sense now, Apple gave you the butthurt. Did they fire you ? You couldn’t cut it at the Genius Bar ? Is that why you are being stupid about electronics becoming obsolete ? Like this is something that is unique to Apple and they make the only hardware that becomes obsolete.
Just because there is no plex app doesn’t make it obsolete to the masses. As someone who provides support for a/v integrators all across the country I can tell you plenty of Apple TVs have been bought to not even use the video features of the device. It might not fit your needs just like that old Roku box I used to have isn’t obsolete. I chunked it because it didn’t support 4K. Worked fine for someone who doesn’t care about 4K. I just gave my nephew a 43” Samsung TV that was only a couple years old because it too didn’t support 4K. Works perfectly fine in his bedroom for video games but it didn’t meet the requirements to be my bedroom TV anymore.
You don’t see me screaming at the sky about Samsung and Roku making obsolete devices.

I feel like you walked in on Tim Cook and Steve Jobs running a train on your wife. That’s the only explanation I can come up with for your hatred of Apple.
