Need a Laptop/chromebook for Novel Writing

I am looking to get something to take with me wherever I go to start back writing. I honestly have no idea about chromebooks. Are they just as useful as laptops? All I need is something I can get a good word processing software and maybe browse the internet some in down time. It would not be for games or movies. What do you all think?

Chromebooks require internet access to save your work to the cloud. You can work offline if you set your files to offline access, but they won’t save to the cloud again until you are back online.
There are options for word processing. Google docs would be the standard issue with a Chromebook, but Microsoft 365 lets you use word on a chromebook as well.
While limited, I love chromebooks and can get by on one for everything I do at work if I truly wanted to. The cost is minimal and all that updates is the chrome browser. Just remember, local storage will be small because it leveraged cloud storage. If that bothers you, carry a jump drive.

Thanks for your reply. I would guess best buy of somewhere coming up for black friday will be my best chance to find one at it's cheapest. Is the main difference between chromebook and a regular laptop the operating system?

Yes. Chromebooks run apps that are web based. No installing Software. I wouldn’t spend more than say $300. You can get a decent one for closer to $225-50 if you watch for deals
