Mounting in ceiling speakers (also please recommend me some speakers)

Moving to a new place with a drop ceiling basement. Standard ACT tiles. Yuck in terms of look but will be sweet to easily be able to Mount ceiling speakers without doing permanent damage (we are renting).
Can I mount them straight into the ACT or should I buy a special panel to Mount them to?
Secondarily I was looking at some 8” klipsch woofers but they’re $200 each. Anybody have any recommendations for anything in a similar size but a little cheaper? Alternatively klipsch has 6.5” woofers for about $130. Will I notice a big difference with the smaller woofers?
These are just intended to be atmos speakers, not my main 5 channel setup.

You should get mounts for the speakers that put the weight on the grid and not the ceiling tiles.

For Atmos speakers you definitely shouldn't need to step up to an 8" woofer assuming you already have a sub as part of the setup. Positioning all the speakers well helps. Think of your main left & right speakers in a stereo setup. A correctly positioned stereo pair will allow for good sound images between the speakers. Atmos can give you that between all speakers. Sound can go from front L to the L height, and between. (Admittedly not a lot of movies really take advantage of that but for those that do it's pretty cool.) So line up your Atmos speakers with the L/R as well as you can.
