Mounting and weight

Not really a tech question but people more into consumer tech might be able to help. Long time ago got a very nice Sony Bravia LCD. It weights 55lbs.
Some time aftger that, I got another tv for which I bought a Dynex mount that supports 50 lbs of weight.
Now I want to use that mount for that TV. It's just 5 lbs over. Would you? I'm torn between just trying this tv/mount combo and just getting a new, lighter TV.

More importantly, how is the mount secured to the wall? 3"+ long wood screws or larger? At least 4 of them mounted into studs?
If the mount is metal, and fairly sturdy, 55 lbs shouldn't hurt the mount itself. It's much more dependent on the way it's mounted on the wall.

What type of mount? Fixed, tilt, articulating? If it's not fixed don't do it.

It's two thick arse metal bolts into the stud. Without going downstairs to look at them, is say they're three inches long each.
Yeah I'm not worried about the mount; just the TV falling out the wall, so your post is helpful. Thanks. Sounds like your comfort level is low with just two bolts.

It's fixed. My bad fr not giving more info. seems like it's just a little bit over what is probably a conservative limit so I'm tempted to just use it, but if a lot of people are like "don't risk it," I won't.

Is it a 2 bolt mount or a 4 bolt mount? Those estimates should be conservative so you should be fine. If it's a 4 bolt mount you might want to get bolts in on the other side of the mount.
True story. I was doing a walk through with a builder and the builder swung the articulating mount around to show the homeowner and the whole thing came out of the wall and landed in his arms.
The dumb arse installer didn't mount into the studs. He used toggle bolts in the drywall and when questioned about it he answered that the toggle bolts "were rated for 80 lbs each". I guess he didn't realize that the drywall the toggle bolts were in isn't rated to bear weight at all.

Fixed 4-bolt mount, you should be fine. As long as it's in studs (all 4 bolts), it's likely capable of well over 55 lbs.
I was looking at a mount the other day for my son's room, but the mount was only 14" wide (32" TV). So it wasn't capable of reaching 2 studs. I ordered a larger one so I could secure it to 4 studs. I'm fairly certain my family could swing from that thing.

was expecting this thread to be sex advice for the fatties. Forgot I was not on the OT.

That's how I tested mine. It is for a 46 inch in the playroom, and it is mounted into studs with all 4 bolts. I weigh 180 and I grabbed onto the top of the mount and walked up the wall. I'd rather tear up some cheap drywall and mess up a TV mount than have a TV fall to the floor.
