I was just over at a friends house and he has a Mibox with all the channels on it..ESPN, CBS, SEC network etc. How is this possible and how can I get the same thing?

MiBox is just an AndroidTV device. There are many. You can get basically any streaming service on them.
If your friend is getting all that stuff for free, then maybe the MiBox is more "open" and it's easier to install shady apps on it.
Why didn't you ask your friend?

Someone programmed it for him. And they charge him a monthly fee. I want to try to get around that.

Yes it's just an android box. Does pretty much same as a FireTvStick. Not totally impossible to do own your own for free but you'll spend more time keeping it working than watching TV. Lots of cheap IPTV out there that does all the work for a small fee. Good luck :)
