I posted earlier about buying a used MBA from local university from surplus. Turns out a few people wanted it and they turn it to an auction when this happens. I did not get the one i wanted but there are 2 more going on ale this friday.

my question is, if i am replacing battery and hard drive on the MBA, does age of the laptop matter very much? they have a 2011 and a 2013 going on sale friday.

Laptop will mainly be used for basic school things for my wife so doesn't need to be the latest and greatest editor or processor. TIA

replacing the SSD won't really help. You may get better read/write times, but that's really negligible for most common use. Replacing the battery will help as the existing battery is most likely worn out.

And capacity. A lot of the Macbook Airs sold at the time have the small base SSD.

Yes with regards to the SSD as the 2010-2011 Airs use a different SSD technology as the 2013-2017 SSD so costs will vary.

Use ifixit and OWC to spec out the potential upgrades

Well they are sold without hard drive so that will be bought regardless of how it helps the system. Thanks
