Looking for the pros & cons with these two. I do know the caseta has a limit of 50 devices vs 100 for RA. My question is what is considered a device? Is 3 light fixtures on one light switch considered 3 devices? I'm figuring around 30 recessed lights hooked up to about 6 3-way switches.

device is any switch or remote, not fixture

Caseta allows for wiring if you dont have a neutral, pretty much its main pro

Smart bridge pro counts as a device too.

No, just the Caseta switch operating those bulbs is a device.

I think you'd be hard pressed to reach 50 unless you put everything you can think of on smart switches. I just couldn't justify some of them, like pantry or closet lights.

Works great though for my high traffic lights.

I used Samsung Smartthings door sensors and Sengled bulbs so they come on and go off as I open and close them.

Pantry, Master Closet, Laundry Room.

That's a good idea. I have a little one now so sensors and a hub for those were a next step.

I will say there is one particular closet I could use this on.

Cool. I want to install the caseta in high traffic areas (living/kitchen, foyer, etc.), however I'm being told that I should go with RA2 Select and the caseta isn't a great option. I don't know if it's worth double the price to move towards the RA2 Select. Thoughts?

I can see this for my pantry since the door is going to be closed all the time but what about doors that I will keep open (most of the time). What motion sensor to you recommend? Lutron has one but the timer on those are 1 minute after you leave the room? I feel that is a longer than I would like but I would like to hear others.

I'm a caseta user.

I would only consider upgrading if:
1) I wanted motorized shades (I have no desire for them)
2) I wanted more than 50 switches/pico remotes- I may eventually butt up against 50, but it's probably better for me to have a limit. I'm bad at throwing money at unnecessary stuff that I think is cool
3) you may have to check me here, but the RA2 I think is compatible with some different switches that caseta is not which will allow for motion sensors on the switch (Maestro RF line, I think). Do not quote me, but check. If you want smart control, dimmers, scheduling, and their color is adequate, you otherwise gain very little with the upgrade. Basically, if you have to ask, you probably don't need it. Because if the caseta does it, the RA2 doesn't do the same thing any better (except for integrated motion sensors which I may be wrong about which sound like you aren't interested in)

Side note, let's just say one thing you were excited about was adding light and fan control to your Logitech Harmony remote
Light control works great
Fan control is not supported.

May I ask who is selling you on the upgrade?
If it's the person selling you the product, I'm not seeing a justification other than the lining of their pockets from your description, but that doesn't mean that we aren't missing something in the details that would make the upgraded line fit you better.
