Looking for options for pay as you go internet or phone for 1 month for upcoming trip

I have att cell services, and In about 2 months I’ll be headed up to Colorado for 2 weeks, and this area doesn’t have att coverage at all. Only Verizon works in the area. Looking for a low cost option to either have hot spot and connect my current iPhone with WiFi calling, or pick up a prepaid Verizon service phone to be able to keep in touch with family back home while I’m away. Are any of the Walmart prepaid services good, and are any on Verizon towers?

Just do Verizon prepaid...you could probably do all this for under $100

Can't you just get a burner prepaid from Wal-Mart or something?
EDIT: Reading, it's not for everyone. I see you're considering that route. It's still what I'd do. There are some of the low end smartphones for prepaid service that are like $20 and plans are available from all the carriers in different levels of service, so you can just pick the plan that is best for wherever you travel and what you'll plan to use.

I highly recommend Google Fi if you are going to continue to travel to remote places. For now, I would most likely combo a prepaid Verizon service + hotspot.

Bump. My trip is next week and just wanted to get a few more opinions.
