Looking for a new fitness tracker/smart watch

So my Fitbit Alta bricked on me this week. I've had it almost 2 years, and it seems to be a battery issue. It will show it is charging, then fully charged, but as soon as I take it off of the charger, I get a few minutes before it is dead. Their customer support was decent, and they offered me 25% off almost anything in their store, since it is out of warranty. And 40% off of the Ionic, which is sort of a smartwatch.
That being said, I'm considering another company instead of sticking with them. I mainly want it to track steps and sleep, have an alarm feature, and send me text and call alerts. I can get the Fitbit Ionic for around $180 with the discount, or get the Versa, their newest one, for its regular price of $200. I've heard that you need to charge an Apple watch almost daily, which doesn't appeal to me as I like to wear mine for sleep tracking and the alarm clock to wake me up.
Garmin, Samsung, and a few others have similar offerings. If you have any of them, let me know how you like it.
Built in GPS and music storage would be nice, but that's more of a bonus and not a must have, since I will always take my phone on a run with me in case of emergencies.

I had a blaze for about 2 and a half years, it finally took a hit to a ladder that took it out of commission. It got well abused over time and stood up very well. I decided to get another but they had stopped making it.
I spoke to fitbit people and they gave me a similar discount since it was past it's warranty period. I tried to Ionic for a couple days but I wasn't a fan. I tried out the Versa and love it. It can go without charging for 3-4 days and I'd say it fits what you're looking for in a watch. I would absolutely recommend it

Apple Watch will go a full 2 days before I have to charge.
I take mine of at night - just more comfortable without it. I have a friend who wears his for sleep tracking and he puts it on the charger after he wakes up. While showering, it gets back to 100% by the time he's ready to leave for work.

apple watch is worth the investment imo. i had a fitbit before my apple watch and thought i would be annoyed by the daily charging. I just charge it at night. no big deal. if you must have sleep tracking i could see this being a deal breaker. of course you could charge it at work if you have a desk job.

So I've had/have the Apple Watch, Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and the Suunto Core series of watches.
I generally go with this logic:
If you have an iPhone and Apple Music definitely go Apple Watch.
If you have a Samsung phone go with the Gear S3 (they may have a new one out soon too).
If you want the BEST battery life and are looking for a hardcore watch for outdoor life look at the Suunto watches. They have a million different styles.

Fossil has gotten into the smartwatch biz. I had 2 Fitbits and both had crappy bands that broke. I stumbled upon the Fossils one day and got one that looks like a traditional watch and has all kind of programmable features. Have had it about 9 months and like it.
Fossil Smart Watches
This is like the one I got but in stainless which is out of stock online.

I have the Garmin vivoactive 3. Does just about everything. I run a decent amount and wanted it mostly for that, but with the Garmin app it will tell you everything. Run, sleep, bike, swim. Plus it will double as a golf watch!
I recommend going to Dcrainmaker
This guy does some serious in depth unbiased reviews of all types of these kinds of products. All hands on and he is a tri athlete.

I’ve used an Apple Watch for years but I prefer the look of the fossil watches for a formal outfit. Does anyone know how well they integrate with Apple and the fitness tracking?

Thanks, I'm probably going to get lost in there later today. I've already read one review, and it was very extensive.

Don't know if I completely understand the question, but Fossil has their own app that does all the fitness tracking. It's a pretty good app that lets you assign all the buttons and configure the fitness tracking.

Yup... he does a good job.
Decided on the Fitbit Ionic after reading his review. Should be here soon and I'll give an update in case anyone is interested. I was also heavily considering the Garmin Vivosmart or Vivosport. But the ability to include music and gps won me over.

So I've had it a couple of weeks now, and I like it so far. Notifications are better on the touchscreen than on the Alta's small display. Battery life has been great. We took a short trip last week, so Sunday morning I put it on to fully charge. Saturday morning it was at 14% remaining, so 5 full days and I probably could have stretched that to 6, but I was just making coffee/breakfast and doing a couple of things before going out to cut grass. It went from 14% back to 100% in 1 hour and 50 minutes, so I'm guessing from completely dead it would take 2 hours max. I don't know when it was full, but after that stretch I checked it and it was done.
GPS works great. I ran a few 1 mile stretches with it, my phone's GPS, and on a route I knew was a mile, and they were within a couple hundredths of each other. I haven't loaded any music yet because you have to do that via computer and wifi, but I'll take my laptop home one day and do that.
