a huge fricking pain in the arse.

however, once you have them setup, they're pretty nice.

the 21w v2 is what you want..it should run around $70 (lots of sales on it..both direct from foscam and at amazon right now) because its HD and you can control it and do lots of stuff.

i finally have set it up and tested 100% of the features and i'm glad i did that before i actually needed any of them because each one was an exercise in frustration.

oh and the foscam app just got updated for lollipop in the last day and actually works again instead of crashing.

you can use other software with these cameras as well and they're very powerful once you get comfortable with them.

having said that, car, i can help you out with any questions so dont be afraid to get one..you might start with just one and see how you like it.

eta here's where i finally ended up putting my baby-cam foscam

and here's the LIVE view from there (you can play with the color settings too)

its amazon. if you have any problems at all, just return it.

everything i've bought from amazon warehouse has arrived brand new...only the boxes have been beat up.

its a box. you're gonna throw it away anyway.

good deal, i ordered 2 to see how i would like them.

do they stay pointed in the direction you set them to or do they move on their own to pick up motion?

I love the idea of it sending you an email of the pic when something comes into view.

also is there any work on wink integration?

I have the chamberlain garage door up and running. However, I cannot get the fricking wink app to login. It keeps telling me my email is invalid. WTF?

Myq is a thing of joy. It took maybe 20 minutes to install and another 15 minutes setting it up in the app.

Whodat.. Both Chamberlain and wink apps are working fine for me. Are you 100% sure it's the correct email and password?

Joy is an open garage button on my android watch

It's a beautiful solution. I highly recommend it even without wink.

The programming to my existing garage was the absolute smoothest experience ever.

frick homelink. That shite has always been a problem with every car Ive tried to pair. Chevy Avalanche, Honda Odyssey, Mazda MPV and my Sequoia.

Eta and homelink has been s pain in the arse at my parent's house too.. Not just my garage door had been difficult to pair.

:cracks knuckles:

1. You can move it where you like and save that location for later.. Even program it so when it starts up after power failure etc it will go to your custom location. No it doesn't follow movement automatically.

2. Email pic is awesome. You have tons of options.. You can even 'crop' the area you want to trigger the photo in case you have a window with tree limbs moving all day you don't want to trigger it. Very fun feature.

3. No word on wink integration yet but this would be a slam dunk since there's no monthly fee bullshite look dropcam.

Foscam is a pita to configure at first but very feature rich and inexpensive.

Did that a while back and again, tonight. I keep getting the error that it's not responding to command. It does monitor properly and notify me how long it's been open. Perhaps in the programming the code sequence I'm missing something. May give it another shot this weekend.

Doesn't it work from their website too? Have you tried that to see if that works so you can rule out an issue with the iOS app?

When you paired it with your existing garage system did it actually open the door as well as tell you that programming was successful?

Is the little sensor on the very top panel of your garage door and right side up?

Will the Honeywell thermostat work with these wires?

Yep. Will wire right up no problem. That blue wire is your "c" wire that supplies power to the honeywell unit.

All it takes is wink hiring one really good developer and letting him go in and fix the software... or someone like rmerlin creating alternate firmware.

Rmerlin single handedly made asus routers what they are today. He showed them the hardware was shite without reliable software. Asus is now pumping out firmware updates practically monthly to maintain their rock solid reputation.

Same with wink. Everyone is salivating over the hardware.. Fix your fricking software quirky!

FYI, a couple quick pics of my schlage deadbolt. i really really love it. my other one literally died (coincidence i swear!) last week..fricking kwikset deadbolt made up of plastic parts with chrome plating so i had a dishrag in the top hole of my front door for a few days

perfect timing; rather than a cheap deadbolt i found this z wave touchscreen schlage for $129 on ebay and it installed beautifully and the tech support from schlage was spot on.

ignore the garbage bag full of shitty diapers

i'll be honest..for the last 2 years that door has stayed unlocked almost 100% of the time..except when we're asleep.

i know..bad dad bad cad.

now i've gone the opposite direction and drilled those BIG arse screws into the door jamb for 'level 1 security' whatever the frick that means.

its a nice lock. way better than that plastic kwikset POS..trivia my old code was the L-O-S-T code which is funny because it took like 10 seconds to enter all the digits in each time.

so with the schlage i can:

1. unlock remotely if the kids or someone ever needs to get in and they don't have a key

2. unlock it with the physical key (which i probably never will use)

3. unlock it using code on keypad

4. unlock it via my phone & watch.

overkill..but i'm hoping it helps if i ever sell the house!
