Laptop 2-in-1 Feedback and Recommendations

I am in the market for a 2-in-1 laptop/tablet device. My intent was to spend under $1,000, but everything I have come across is in the $1,250 - $2,000 price range. I am interested in feedback from the board on your experience using one as well as any overall recommendations when searching for one.
A little more feedback on my initial search. I could go either way whether it is an Apple device or another device running Windows 10. I originally was looking at Microsoft's Surface X and Apple's iPad Pro, but I've expanded my search to Dell and Lenovo.

What are you using it for?

A combination of work, school, and personal use. Work-wise mostly around document management and communications. School would be for document management, note taking and eText. Personal use being around web browsing, budgeting, etc... I like the portability of tablets, but they are not as practical for some of the additional uses I am after that a 2-in-1 offers.
I would like some decent specs on it so that the machine is still fairly operable 2-3 years out.
