Long story short, I got a new work computer a few months ago. There was nothing wrong with my old one so I've just been working on it. Well, a couple of days ago, my license for Office gave up the ghost (expired) so my hand was forced.

Anyway, been going thru moving over my flies etc. Went to print this AM and since I'm at home on Friday's my home network printer hadn't been installed yet. Grrrr. So I call IT and they say they can install it for me. Anyway, I remote the tech in and he elevates the access rights that I don't have to do it myself. While he's doing his thing, he asks what division I'm in and I tell him. A few moments later he comes back with "Your division doesn't allow remote network printing, only USB.

So I need a USB-B cable which I don't have in sufficient length. He tells me "I'm going to close the ticket. When you get the cable let me know and well finish the install." He then closes the remote connection.

What he didn't close was the printer install window. Now I'm faced with a dilemma. How do I resolve it? I click on "Network connection" and next. Bingo-Bango Network printing engaged.

No dilemma. The IT guy likely didn't do that by accident. It was his parting gift for you.

Get a network printer and print over the network at home. Wireless printers are like nothing these days.

***edit why on earth are you printing anything in 2025. I have a printer strictly for ebay shipping labels and that's it.
