iPad for my son

My son is turning 10 soon and he has been asking for an iPad for over a year now. Any suggestions on models for him ?
He would use it for: games, streaming, pictures/videos, and maybe some homework.
I do not plan on getting him a new tech toy every year so hoping to get something with enough memory (256 GB at least ?) to last for 3-4 years.

Get the 2021 base iPad model, and a $50 Spigen case. The 2021 is on sale for $269 or so, and if he hasn't had an iPad before now, he'll never know what he's not missing (the new one is $449.)
Do *not* concern yourself about storage for a 10 year old. When was the last time someone didn't have WiFi? 2014? 64GB stores (about) six movies, a season of a TV show, etc. I regularly flew 12 hours to Asia, spent two weeks in a hotel with my 128GB iPad, and never ran out of content.

Don’t do it. Buy him a tv if you want, but don’t turn him into a screen slave yet.

If you set it up and moderate it correctly, my 2 girls only get to use the "fun" apps (Netflix, Disney+, etc) only after they've done learning on Epic and their private school app for 1h a day first.
You can make it super educational, you just gotta parent it the right way.

Yep, agree here. We have my daughters iPad tightly controlled, it's easy to do with Apples ecosystem. We have her apps limited and her screen time on/of certain times. If she wants an app, she has to send a request that my wife or I have to approve.

A TV is a screen too.

My seven year old has an IPad Pro that he uses for schoolwork and some gaming. In addition to his homework(of which he doesn’t have much) we make him do 30 minutes a day of study using Splash Learning. He does it all from their app on the IPad. We added a Magic Keyboard to begin teaching him proper typing techniques and he has taken to it well. We went this route thinking it could double as an iPad and “laptop” setup for him until he gets into high school and really needs a proper laptop.
I find that he enjoys watching other kids play games more than he does actually playing the games
Kids are weird.
