Internet Speed question regarding mbps

Physically plugged in with a cable is always going to be more reliable than wireless, and I will always recommend using a cable wherever possible.

Your speed is pretty good (granted I don't know what speed you're paying for), though I would like to see the upload speed a little higher.

That said, your speed is "good enough" for gaming, and actually your ping times are more important here (lower ping is better).

As for WatchESPN freezing, that shouldn't be happening if your speeds are consistently as fast as you posted. Anything above 5 or 10mbps download should be good enough for one HD video stream. You might have an intermittent connection problem that temporarily causes your speeds to drop below what you've posted or your connection to drop entirely.

I'm not sure this is the best way to test, but I always start with a long-running ping. If you have a computer you can use, open a command prompt and type:

It will start scrolling some stuff, and on each line you should see "time" with a number in milliseconds (ms). That's your ping times, and they should stay around or below 50ms. Most importantly, they should be pretty consistent. If you see any spikes in the numbers, or if any of the pings don't come back at all, then you've got a connection issue that will require further troubleshooting.


Hold Ctrl and press C to stop the ping, or just close the command prompt window.
