Internet help - Google mesh?

Looking to start fresh with existing wiring so just router, modem, extender help.
We have two story home. About 2,500 sq. ft. Have Ring cameras outside and smart equipment throughout. Stream on multiple TVs with Firesticks. My curent setup is a rented Cox panoramic router/modem combo. Get great download speeds but it has trouble reaching everything throughout the house and the cameras outside. It works, at times great, but some equipment works better than others due to distance. To help I got a couple of Netgear extenders (yeah I know) but this really improved the situation. Now after a TV lost connection, I want to revamp it.
I searched after reading this board.. a Google mesh system. Looks like it comes with three points for $200. What router/modem would I need to get with it? Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

I have the Google mesh mated with a docsis 3 cable modem.
I had it in a two story house (4000 ft2) and it worked like a charm. Our house had thermashield decking which made cell phone reception terrible.
The google mesh with wifi calling worked beautifully as I moved about the house without call drops. Internet coverage was excellent as well.

Thanks for both.

quote:The google mesh system is/has a router, so you just need a modem (non-combo!). Lots of arris and motorola modems work with cox, just make sure it supports the speed of your service (they all probably do). Definitely don't rent any equipment, shite's a racket.

The google setup will work fine even with a modem/router combo so long as the OP doesn't game or do any nerdy stuff. In theory it could impact port-forwarding in general but it works for me, at least with a firewall between the modem and Google router.
Or maybe the Cox modem/router combo is smarter than I give it credit for and puts itself in bridge mode? *shrug*

It might work with no extra config or maybe a little config, but in either case OP said he is currently renting it so I'd still suggest sending it back and buying a plain modem outright.

Always a good suggestion, imo. I've been meaning to buy one myself. I lost my old one in the flood and have just been using Cox's ever since.

Yeah our house got struck by lightning and fried our purchased modem. Been renting once since. Not for too long but want to purchase just a modem.
