They do not. Ideally they are installed "IN" the ceiling pointed at the listening area. But you also have the other surround speakers at ear level. The idea is to surround the listener with speakers, left, right front back and overhead. So if there is a scene for example with bullets or mortar fire (Saving Private Ryan 4k edition with Atmos) you can literally hear the bullets going around and over you. If you get a decent Atmos receiver it can even render non-Atmos movies in pretty close to Atmos sound.

Haven't downloaded but have my whole movie collection streamed through Vudu service. Every movie available in 4k is in 4k. It's the way to go. No matter where you go, your movies are with you. You can add your movies from your computer at home or take them to Walmart and they will do it for you. I think the charge is 2 dollars per movie to add it to your account. The service itself is free.

Haven't hit OT baller status?! But you've got a fricking theater room in your house? Dumbest rich person I know.

Probably $1,000 to no more than $2,000 (for some good speakers)

Perhaps, but this IS the OT. Apparently, that other poster’s OT baller status isn’t nowhere near reachable for anyone else.

Atmos is a gimmick in my opinion. Why bounce sound waves off a wall when you can just have a speaker?

That’s not what atmos is. That’s just an easy way to achieve overhead sound from movies that are mastered in atmos sound

Sonance - 6-1/2" 2-Way In-Ceiling Speakers (Pair)

I just came across these. The reviews seem pretty positive. Have any of you had experience with this brand? I'm considering getting 3 pair and seeing that they're 75% off is pretty awesome too. Looking for the board's opinion...

Sonance invented the architectural speaker. I’m a fan of the way they sound. While I haven’t heard that specific speaker I have lots of experience with a similar speaker they make under a different name. Love the silk dome tweeters and that price looks pretty damn good.

Hijack.

Tigerwise.

Do you sell Dynaudio? I'm thinking about my next setup and I want it to be able to do two channel as well. We can take the discussion offline if it busies this thread to much.

I do not. I think there are only two dealers in my market.

Thanks. I figured it was worth a shot.

I know their distribution is tightly controlled except for the lower end stuff they sell through Crutchfield (which are still pretty darned good speakers).

This second photo is of the theater room prior to my purchasing the house and repainting the walls (the previous owner had painted the room the same color as his high school kid's school's colors). I'm posting it because I wanted to give y'all the rear view of the layout of the room. I was thinking of installing 4-6 of the in-ceiling speakers in the angled ceiling and using just those speakers as my surround & atmos speakers. Would that be recommended, or will I still need to have ear level speakers installed in the walls?

Looks to me like they'll still be aimed at your ears. That's a challenging room but then again, most rooms that people choose to put systems in are challenging rooms.

I’ve had great luck with Audiogon.com buying used Dynaudio speakers. Audiophiles take care of their stuff and you can get mint speakers for much less than new.

I went ahead and ordered 4 pair of those Sonance speakers from Best Buy. I feel pretty good about them after reading the reviews. The $450.00 off per pair just couldn’t be ignored (total savings was $1,800.00). Now, I need to find a receiver to give them what they need.
