Ideas for my sons loft bed

I’m starting next week on building my son (5 yrs old) a loft bed. Below is the picture I found for my inspiration. Instead of another bed at the bottom, it will be a “hang out” spot to read books and whatever. The ceiling of this will be black with fiber optic star effect. I’ll also have a color changing led light strip. What else can I add to the over all design of this bed to make it cool?

I bet you could fit a miniature model of lsu’s Campus under there. Either that or a Hyundai

That looks cool AF.
You guys are obviously not a "we make our beds every morning" type of family!

My wife makes ours but not his because he has a ton of stuffed animals and he just folds his top blanket down and pulls it up at night.

I bought my daughter a metal one with a hangout spot below. I would really think about the feasibility of a permenate structure. It is not the easiest to make the bed, and it has a life span. He will want a regular bed as he gets older.

It won’t be permanent. I’ll be able to easily disassemble when he out grows it. I’m also not worried about him making his bed. I own a woodworking side business so I’m no stranger to building things. I’ll only have minimal holes in the wall and know how to repair sheet rock if needed once I pull it out. Appreciate the advice though!

The steps need a handrail and you could always mount an LED light strip underneath for lighting.

How about a zipper where he can close the bottom? What kid didn’t like a giant refrigerator box? Same idea. You could put stars and stuff in there too.

I went the quicker route and ordered one from collegebedlofts.com. With 9' ceilings in his room, we were able to order it tall enough to fit his electric drum set under it with plenty of room to play.

I would eliminate the shelf over his head for safety purposes. Add some sort of railings on those stairs in case he sleep walks or just slips and falls. Throw a slide in there for fun. Also a big bean bag chair underneath the bed in front of the tv. Cool CAD 3D model btw. I wish I could do stuff like that.
