I'm absolutely stupid. Please talk to me slowly and as if I'm a child. I've been trying to set up a Eero mesh using my AT&T 1000 gateway. I cannot figure it out.

setup the eero devices in "access point" mode. Do not set them up as routers.

Do what he said but also disable the wifi on the AT&T gateway. Also name the SSID the same as the AT&T gateway if you have existing devices hooked up, they will then connect to the Eero system.

I hat ATT fiber and did this with a deco mesh system. I put the att router in pass through mode. You will have to google the router model you have to get the instrcutions and expect them to be close at best.

This is what I did and it works perfectly.
Here is a walkthrough.
How to configure your AT&T modem/router to work with a 3rd party router.

Why not put the ATT modem/router in pass-through mode and use the routing capability of the mesh router system? Seems to me this would be a better way to go.

Because beginner questions get beginner answers.

To do that, do you follow the instruction xgd linked above?

XGD - I followed those steps, which were pretty easy. Thanks! Do I need to name the eero WiFi and the ATT WiFi the same name?

If you are trying to follow steps to do a passthrough, the att wifi shouldn't even be on. Sounds like it would be best to just do a standard setup. Name the EEROs same as at&t wifi and use the at&t gateway as your router.

This is correct. I turned off my WiFi on the ATT router. I also did this while I was connect via ethernet cable.
