Home WiFi, network illiterate — will this work

Currently using a single ATT 5G home internet hub/ gateway for wifi (CGW-450).
Could I go from it to a switch and then out to 2-3 wired APs, assuming I have the cable in place? Is more hardware required to make this work? Maybe a second router? If so, can you help me understand why? Tia

I had a similar set up for a while (AT&T Fiber Router -> Switch -> 2 APs). Worked well.
You shouldn't need any additional hardware or anything, unless you want to use a PoE device somewhere on your wired network.

It will work, I have a similar setup. AT&T router>switch>UniFi AP's. Let the AT&T router handle routing, turn off it's WiFi radios.

Awesome. Thanks for the feedback.
Can you help me understand what else is gained (for a simple home network) by using a device like the Unifi Express between the ISP equipment and the switch? Is that required for better network control?

I was wondering how folks were going to tell him to manage that.

If you went with the Express, it would be in the middle routing, I don't think you gain much with that on a home setup. I have my UniFi devices running off the free controller application on a Windows computer. You don't have to have it running 24/7, just to set up the devices and maybe turn it on once and a while to catch firmware updates. I had them up and running within 10 minutes, super easy to set up.

Go buy devices like this tp-link deco
Going with unifi or similar system is more prosumer level. If you just want to add APs, just get the TP-link devices. There's other brands out there that do similar job.

Eh. I have cat6 run to some remote locations that I want wifi but are too far to connect a mesh system reliably. I don’t trust it to be reliable.

They are mesh but can still use the Ethernet as back haul. For you mesh just means seamless transition from one AP to the next.

And do I understand correctly that they have an iOS app version of the controller, too? Ever tried that by chance?

Not 100% sure but I don't think you can run the controller on iOS. There is an iOS app I can view everything on but the controller is still running on a PC.
