Help with Dual Monitor Setup

I need to add a second monitor to my home office setup. The single monitor I currently have is a gaming monitor with the following specs:
This monitor has been discontinued and they are going for $700 on EBay which I don’t want to shell out for a perfect identical match. With that said, what specs do I need to match up in order to have smooth performance between two different monitors? I plugged in an older monitor with different resolution to try it out and the screen was burnt after about 30 minutes.

Get a 27" 1440p monitor. If it's a secondary display, just get a 60hz one

Are you running these from the onboard processor or an added video card?
If from your onboard, your processor may not be able to handle two high resolution displays.
If a good video card, get a close to matching spec of your current monitor.
Or, as stated above, sell the current and get two matching.

I have a docking station for my work laptop which is how I connect to the monitor(s)
I don’t want to sell my currently monitor because
1-I will use it when I use the Xbox
2- it’s used and 3 years ago so I doubt I can sell it for close to $700
3- the hassle of trying to sell/ship something delicate and added risk not worth it

Just means you had a bad monitor.

I figured out my issue - monitor may not be "fried" but it did get some screen burn. I checked the specs of my docking station and it apparently doesn't have to juice to handle the resolution of both monitors I hooked up to it. I'm going to buy a better docking station to see if that fixes my issue

What docking station was it?

Dell WD15 - issued by my company

I don't understand what you mean by juice. That dock doesn't power the monitor and should be able to handle dual 4k monitors. We have them all over my office.

That’s why I asked what docking station. That’s a pretty standard/universal docking station that should be able to handle what he’s got

This is in the manual of my docking station
