I have the 8000 model of that TV and found a setting in my reciever that corrected my picture problems. Mine looked choppy on any football game. Didn't realize that I left the reciever on 1080p from my old TV. Changed it to 4k and all is right with the world.
Is your reciever capable of 4k?

Not sure. I'm going to try removing the receiver from the equation. I don't really need it with the smart tv features. Would only need it for blu Ray player but we rarely use it and then I could just swap the HDMI from the back of the direct tv box to the blu ray.

Do any of you Samsung owners have issues with Amazon either freezing during viewing or just not opening? Netflix and Hulu always work so it isn't a connection problem.

Yea, I'd think it's pretty important that the receiver you're going thru is capable of sending/receiving 4K signals

Blu ray, Netflix 4K content...looks fantastic. Direct tv hd content is less than impressive.

What makes you think the problem is the tv?

My Amazon app usually takes several tries to open up. It has only frozen up once. Pretty annoying.

Have fun watching ESPN 720p upscaled all the way to 4K.

I'll go one better:

Have fun watching 'highly compressed h.265' ESPN 720p upscaled all the way to 4k.

Even funnier is that Sony and Sharp have WatchESPN apps available on their TVs and Samsung doesn't.

Recommend that OP get an Nvidia Shield that outputs 4K and has Android TV on it including Watch ESPN. The Nvidia has great upscaling technology so should look fantastic on your TV. Even the FireTV outputting 4K with WatchESPN will be better than the DirecTV feed.
