Google Play Unsafe App Alert

I received an alert today that was new to me. Google Play reported that CamScanner was an unsafe app for advertising purposes and to uninstall it. This evening my phone went off with a reminder for an appointment titled 'Free Netflix for a Year' with a link to a survey site. I checked the appointment and it was set on repeat for 6 nights. I didn't create the appointment on my calendar. I'm unsure of where it originated from and trying to decide if it is linked to CamScanner or purely coincidence.
Has anyone else had a similar experience before with their phone? Any suggested replacement app recommendations for CamScanner? Should I consider throwing my phone into a fire?

I have camscanner and have not received any alerts about this.

I got the same alert about camscanner yesterday. I didn't uninstall it and haven't seen anything weird.

It got malware. Go update the app.
