So I got my situation sorted out
I had a family plan that was set to expire on the 15th
I couldn't figure out how to downgrade so I just canceled and was going to re-up with the individual plan (the people on my family plan weren't using it)
Contacted customer support via the chat option and they said I will be able to redeem after the family plan expires because the promo was only available for individual plans
