Good VHS to digital converter softwares?

I bought a Roxio converter dongle and it came with free software. The software is complete garbage and constantly freezes up making this infuriating. I have the dongle that takes analog input signals from composite video and LR audio and connects to the computer via USB.
Can I use that device with any recording software or do I have to use Roxie? Looking for any other freeware or cheap
Software alternatives.

I could try another laptop but I mean everything else I run on there is super smooth.

I just used win10 screen recorder last time i made digital version of old high school football tape…lol

I use premier on this machine all the time with no issues. 4k too.
