I have some questions about this field so I'm a traveling electrician and I sat next to a man on a plane yesterday that makes his leaving in this area. Long story short this guy trains people on how to install and operate this technology. Makes a nice living doing it. My questions are how does one go about acclimating himself with fiber optics with no prior knowledge or experience of this tech and what's the best way of getting into this line of work. Any help is greatly appreciated. TIA

Logical and physical design of a network
ALLIGNMENT
LANs, VLANs, Backbone Networks, how to connect to the WAN.
Hubs/switches/routers
Layer2/3 switches
Residential or organization?
Consulting or just installation?
That's just the very beginning
Definitely want to be certified

If you are an electrician, why don't you go to the ibew local and find out how to get into a position in this trade.
They could probably advise you a lot better on the separation between what electricians can handle and when you would need a tech degree.

I think he means just the physical side of things. Running, splicing, terminating fiber.
