First, I’m a boomer approaching 70 yrs old. Technology is slowly passing me by. It hurts to say that because I worked in telecommunications for my entire adult life.

I still have DirectTV satellite but am about to FINALLY cut the cord and switch to YouTube streaming.

Two things that I love about my current satellite service pertains to LSU & Saints games.

1) - I have the ability to pause the live football game and sync up with local radio. I hate listening to the national ESPN play by play/color asshats. So I put on the game, pause the live game & sync up to radio. TV is usually 15-20 seconds ahead of WWL radio. (I’m not sure if I can do this while streaming on ESPN+ either).

2) - Being able to watch the replay of a game and get frame by frame or at least slo motion playback. I love to watch certain plays in slow-mo to see the blocking up front, the receivers routes, controversial plays etc.

With that said, any recommendations on a DVR that can record streaming & provide live syncing and or slo motion playback replays? Does the YT DVR provide these features?

Signed,
Clueless Old Man.

Unrelated question: when and why did y'all switch your generational name from "baby boomers" to just "boomers"?

Because we’re always told “OK Boomer” I guess.

YTTV has its own DVR that works like any other DVR. ESPN+ does not have DVR capabilities.

Slow motion replay is not an option any cloud based DVR that I am aware of.

I have never heard of a standalone hardware DVR that you can use with a streaming service so I dont think you have any choices. You can get a standalone DVR to use with channels over the air (antenna) but that would be it.

There are at least two hardware options:
1) ChannelsDVR which will cost you $80/y but will allow typical DVR functionality if you want to dedicate a computer or NAS to the function
2) Modulus if you want to pay $3200 for a device capable of recording anything.

3.5- there’s also Anystream and Streamfab that may or may not work on YTTV, but this outside of the typical use case of either of those.

Yea, I would imagine you're looking for simplicity?

First and foremost, a streaming device if you want to cut the cord. Do you and spouse have iphones or androids?

-Apple TV (a little black box that connects to your tv and runs apps, like youtube tv)

-Roku or other streaming device.

From there, once you've picked your device, then you'll want to test the streaming services out, if you cut the cord. Most like Youtube TV the best but there's also Hulu with Live TV (if you already have Hulu).
Try both, see what you like the most and then make your selection.

Oh, and you have to have a decent bandwidth of internet service. Usually anything above 100mbps is good to go. Just trying to think of everything for you though.

Much appreciated guys. I have an iPhone, and use Amazon Fire sticks on two TVs. A TV in the kitchen is a smart tv, but I rarely use that for games.

Anyway, I’m aware that YTTV has a built in iCloud DVR, but I was looking at buying a standalone one for games only to use as stated in the OP. I may just have to forget about that and just go with YTTV as is.

Someone had stated that maybe a Cloner Alliance Box pro may work in this situation, but I’m not familiar enough to drop $200 to $300 bucks on that yet. Anyway thanks for your suggestions. Either way, I’ve got to cut the cord. Then I can think about disconnecting my land line. (just kidding).

Not sure what landline you are using but Ooma or Vonage are great and very affordable for landine options. You still use your traditional landline phone. You cant tell any difference when using it.
