Going to Cuba in a couple weeks, taking GoPro 7 with a few micro sd cards, not bringing a computer. What device exist to either plug in the GoPro to download the pics and free up the cards, or plug the cards into a card reader and save the pics to?

I travel with an 11" Chromebook. They do what I need and are inexpensive so if they break, are lost or stolen I won't be out much.

CB's have a decent file manager and most have an SD card slot. If you bring an external hard drive you can easily transfer the photos to the external drive. Or, if you're able to get a decent Internet connection you can upload them to cloud storage.

Store the CB and external hard drive separately so if thieves target the CB you'll still have the photos.

Yep. If he's not taking a smart phone then an Amazon 7" Fire Tablet would work with the USB hub device in the video you linked. They're currently selling for $40.

Yeah, but how much memory can it store and can a Fire tablet take your videos and then move them to the cloud? Also, can he get lots of data in Cuba to move videos to the cloud?

I use a USB OTG adapter for my android phone to import microsd data and export via cloud storage.

I have a friend that does photography work and he has a 2TB version of one of these he takes around with him. My Passport Wireless Pro

He's going to Cuba. He's not going to have cell service. If he's in a hotel there'a small chance that he'll have reliable wifi. If he's staying in a casa particulare all bets are off on whether and how much access he'll have to the Internet.

Do not take jewelry or other signs of prosperity to Cuba. It's a very poor country. You'll be safe there but it's best not to be flashy.

This is simply information. I understand that the device you linked solves his problem. In Cuba, his phone is little more than a camera.

Absolutely not. His time on the Internet will be limited, will be slow and he certainly won't have data usage like he does here.

Have you done your research on Cuba? I was there in November and can answer any questions you have.

Take cash and plenty of it.

Im all for people being able to use as much data as they need for a cheap cost. but the people that just refuse to connect to wifi when at their house and watch hours and hours of videos that just bogg down the network, just because, is why we all cant have nice things.

He can’t use his plan in Cuba. His phone won’t have any type of service and it’s like the Stone Age of Internet there. Think about where he’s going to be.

I sync over wifi, lol. I have the "unlimited" plan on Verizon but dont want to waste my 22gb of "unlimited" data for that.

I have also attached larger external storage to my phone and reversed the process through usb otg in the past on my nexus devices but havent tried on my pixel phones. I currently have a meenova dash usb c drive with a 256gb microsd for movies and larger files.

I agree. I tried to find something with a bring your own drive option but didnt see anything.

Lacie makes a nice one with included storage but they want even more ($350ish).

He was talking about a hypothetical situation, not this Cuba situation.
