Donating an old iphone

I have a couple of old iPhones I thought I'd donate to Verizon for their domestic violence charity. What do I need to do to make sure my personal info is off the phone (s)?

Just do a factory reset and erase all data

Guide, these phones are older. I think the SIM cards are out. That said, can I charge them up and do a factory reset?

Yeah it's in settings and iPhones have always been known to erase data where it can't be retrieved.
