NORD drastically dropped my speed. I use Torguard now and I can run 25 Mbps on my 100 Mbps using WiFi. With NORD, it was running at less than 5 Mbps.

I dunno. Every site is encrypted on the Internet today and most seem to have no slowdown. Besides, encryption with AES only takes a couple of clock cycles - it's really cheap with the AES optimizations baked into the silicon of modern processors.

A more likely explanation is these VPN services are overselling and do not have the hardware to keep up with demand.
