I am currently looking to get a DJI drone. It will mostly be used for work taking progress photos, site photos as well as some personal use. I will use it several times a week, mostly still pictures and occasional video. I have flown older Phantom 2's before in the past and know this is the platform I want. Since they have quite the selection, am wondering what the best model would be for my uses.
Phantom 3P
Phantom 4
Mavic

All phantom 3's have been discontinued except for the Standard. LINK

I have the 3 Standard. Great little drone. Probably good enough for what you need. Really depends on how much money you want to fork out for it.

I have seen a few bundles for the P3A/P for around $800 or so. Including extra batteries, case, cards and blades. Also had a local guy selling a 4 with extra batteries for $800.

I have heard a few bad things regarding the 4. I just wanted here some opinions on here and if I should get the new Mavic.

I have the Mavic and so far it's great. The best part is it's portability. They were able to jam the guitar s from the Pahntom 4 into the Mavic.

The main difference between the 3 and 4 is obstacle avoidance... If you will be using in an open area I would get a 3. They were available on the DJI site recently for $399 refurbished for the standard version.

I assume you already have the required FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.

Did I state in my questions anything about registrations and license's? I will be flying it to the letter of the law. Thanks though. Back to the topic, as far as the standard vs the advanced, the difference is wifi & lower res camera vs lightbridge and higher res camera?

If he bought it with his own money and is using it on his own time just to check progress as a "hobby", maybe he could skirt the commercial regulation?

Probably not, but that would be something I tried to get away with nonetheless.

To OP, get P3 standard. Plenty for what you need it for.

Using it for the "furtherance of a business" requires a Part 107 Remote Pilots License, even if there is no cash or in-kind compensation.

These articles are from a 3rd Party (not the FAA) but it makes for good cliffs notes:
